PORTLAND, Maine – John E. Menario of Yarmouth has been named Chairman of the Board of Advisors for Bigelow Investment Advisors, LLC, an independent financial consulting firm that specializes in advising individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations.
Menario has more than 30 years in finance, government and banking. He retired after a 17-year career with Banknorth Financial Group, Inc. where he served as Senior Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Assistant to the President.

“John’s wealth of experience in finance and banking combined with his knowledge of Maine will serve us well,” said Gary Robinson, CEO of Bigelow Investments.

Prior to entering the financial services industry, Menario served the City of Portland for 14 years as Assistant City Manager, Director of Finance and as City Manager, resigning in 1976 to become President and CEO of the Greater Portland Chamber of Commerce.

In 1980, he founded and became President of Government Services, a consulting company providing services to governments, companies and nonprofit corporations.

Bigelow Investment Advisors opened earlier this year in Portland, founded by Kathryn Dion and Gary Robinson. Bigelow specializes in advising clients with assets of $300,000 and more who need advice and implementation of a coordinated, independent financial strategy. The firm is not affiliated with any one financial institution so it has the flexibility to create investment plans solely in the best interest of its clients.
