Martin's Point Health Care will offer its popular “Home Alone” workshop in June for children ages 9 to 11 who are home after school or during the summer for short periods of time.

The workshop will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. June 1 in Brunswick and 4 to 5:30 p.m. June 15 in Portland. The single-session event is designed to boost confidence and calm fears of children who spend time at home alone. The children learn basic first aid, how to recognize a true emergency, and how to call for help.

“We want children to be able to think on their feet; to know what to do about situations that may arise when they are home alone,” said Leigh Kirchner, Senior Health Educator and instructor for the class.

The class will be held at the Martin’s Point center in Brunswick, which is in the Cook’s Corner area at Bath and Farley roads, and the Portland class will be held at the Martin's Point Health Education Center at 331 Veranda St. in Portland.
