Martin's Point Physician Honored for Service to Medical Association

Charles J. deSieyes, M.D., a family physician at Martin's Point Health Care in Portland, was recently honored for 20 years of service in the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).

Dr. deSieyes has "contributed significantly to the position of prominence family physicians occupy in today's health care delivery system," said Dr. Russ Kuzel, chairman of the AAFP's Commission on Membership and Member Services. The AAFP is a national medical association that represents more than 88,000 family physicians, family practice residents, and medical students from across the country.

A resident of Falmouth, Dr. deSieyes joined Martin's Point in April and has been a family practice physician since 1977. He is an assistant clinical professor at the University of Vermont School of Medicine, and serves as the school physician for the town of Falmouth. Dr. deSieyes is an alternate team physician for the Portland Pirates, and serves on the board of directors for Family Ice. He is a 1973 graduate of Stanford University.

Family physicians are medical specialists trained to treat a majority of medical problems for all members of the family from newborn to the elderly. "Dr. deSieyes has a long track record as a caring, compassionate, dedicated community physician and we are fortunate to have someone of his caliber with us at Martin's Point," said David H. Howes, M.D., president and chief medical officer of Martin's Point Health Care.

Established in 1981, Martin's Point Health Care employs 290 healthcare professionals who serve 44,000 patients at clinics in Portland, Windham, Brunswick and in Newington, N.H. As Maine's largest health care practice, Martin's Point has attracted widespread attention for its high tech initiatives, including the Robotic Pharmacy System and Patients Personal Points, an Internet-based service that allows patients to use their computers to communicate by a secure server with their doctors.

Headquartered in Portland at 331 Veranda Street, Martin's Point accepts all major health plans and insurance, including but not limited to HealthSource, Anthem/Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Harvard Community Health Plan, Maine Partners, Champus, Tricare, Aetna, Cigna and NYLCare Plans.
