Martin's Point's new 12,700 square-foot health care facility on the corner of Farley and Bath Roads in Brunswick which opens for patients on May 3, will hold a grand opening celebration on Saturday, May 22. Free and open to the public, the event will feature an open house from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with tours, refreshments, health screenings and an opportunity to schedule appointments for physicals and check-ups.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 8:30 a.m. followed by a 9:30 a.m. private showing of "FoodPlay," an award winning theater show aimed at inspiring healthy habits in children, presented to Martin's Point pediatric patients. From 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. tours and refreshments will be provided, as well as health screenings for bone densitometry, blood pressure and cholesterol.

Other activities scheduled for the week following the grand opening include health educational opportunities on: Teen Nutrition; Food Safety; Bike Safety Skills with free bike inspections; Car Seat Safety; Personal Safety for Seniors, and more. Area residents can sign up for these programs during the grand opening.

"Martin's Point will be offering health education programs such as smoking cessation, weight control, and stress management on a regular basis at our new facility," said Jan Wnek, M.D., medical director for Martin's Point.

Ledgewood, Inc. of Portland is building the expansive new health care center, which was designed by PDT Architects of Portland. The site will have the potential for two additional wings with professional space for lease by other medical facilities. "We are very excited about this new center, which was designed as a collaborative effort with the architects in order to keep the patients' comfort and efficient operations as our top priorities," added Wnek.

Martin's Point Health Care, based in Portland at 331 Veranda St., also has clinics in Windham, Bath, and in Newington, N.H. The clinics in Bath and Topsham will be consolidated as part of the new facility as of May 3. However, the Bath clinic will remain open indefinitely.

Established in 1981, Martin's Point has a staff of 240 health care professionals, serving approximately 43,000 patients in the areas of family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, radiology, cardiology, mammography and other fields.
