Michael Kuhns Named Environmental Manager at Dragon Cement and Concrete

Michael A. “Mick” Kuhns has joined Dragon Cement and Concrete as the Environmental Manager. He will be responsible for overseeing environmental compliance and energy conservation.

Dragon operates the only cement manufacturing facility in New England in Thomaston and is the largest supplier of ready-mix concrete in Maine.

Kuhns, who has more than 20 years of experience in the environmental field, will be based in both the company’s Thomaston plant and the corporate offices in Portland. He most recently served in a similar capacity for Irving Tanning of Hartland. Kuhns is a member of the Association of Energy Engineers.

“Mick has a strong background in environmental management and his proven skills will be a real asset to the company into the future,” said Terry Veysey, CEO of Dragon. “We couldn’t be more pleased to have him on board.”

A Mount Vernon resident, Kuhns serves as pastor of Faith Christian Fellowship in New Sharon. He received a master’s in environmental engineering in 1985 from the University of Iowa, and holds undergraduate degrees from both the University of Maine (1983) and Ohio Wesleyan University (1980).

Headquartered in Portland, Dragon employs more than 225 full-time employees statewide. The cement is supplied to most ready-mix companies in the state, and others throughout New England by barge through Coastal Cement terminals in Newington, N.H. and Boston. Dragon also has ready-mix concrete plants in Biddeford, Westbrook, Portland, Lewiston, Brunswick, Augusta, Canton, Fairfield, Madawaska and Presque Isle.
