National Authority on Disability Laws in Education Joins Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson
Attorney Jeanne M. Kincaid, a recognized national authority on disability laws in educational settings, has joined the Litigation Department at the statewide law firm of Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson.
Kincaid is the newest member of Advanced Educational Solutions, a division of the law firm that provides consulting services to public and private educational institutions across the country. The members of Advanced Educational Solutions are attorneys who also have training and experience as educators and administrators, and combine their experience in education with legal expertise.
Prior to joining Bernstein, Shur, Kincaid, who has more than 20 years in law, provided legal representation to school districts, colleges and universities as a member of a Portsmouth, N.H., law firm and as a sole practitioner in southern Maine and coastal New Hampshire. She is a former attorney with the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights, and a former New Hampshire special education hearing officer and certified mediator.
Kincaid is a national lecturer, writer, and trainer of faculty, staff and administrators on disability laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). She is a member of the New Hampshire Bar Association.
A resident of Eliot, Maine, Kincaid is a 1975 graduate of Trenton State College in Trenton, N.J., and received a law degree in 1982 from the University of Oregon School of Law.
Advanced Educational Solutions offers guidance and assists colleges, universities and public and private schools in New England and throughout the U.S. in reviewing and developing legally sound policies that are responsive to current educational theories and practices regarding such issues as disability law, Internet misuse and campus safety.
