Peoples Heritage Bank Promotes Brennan, Ranaghan, McQuillan, Kelley

Peoples Heritage Bank, a Maine-based bank with more than 60 branches throughout the state, has promoted four key employees - Connie L. Brennan, Richard J. Ranaghan Jr., Julie E. McQuillan and Michael H. Kelley, announced Michael W. McNamara, the bank's president and CEO.

Peoples Heritage Bank and its parent company, Banknorth Group, Inc., employ more than 2,200 in Maine. Four Peoples branches operate as Oxford Bank & Trust, a division of the bank. Connie L. Brennan has been promoted to senior vice president in the Government Banking Department in Portland. She is serving as a senior business development officer.

Brennan joined Peoples Heritage Bank in 1995 and has more than 25 years in banking and government. She previously served at Peoples as a vice president of public finance, responsible for attracting and retaining state, city, town, county and school district customers in deposit and loan relationships.

In her career, Brennan also has served as an investment executive, a special assistant to U.S. Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell, an assistant to Boston Mayor Kevin H. White, and a senior advisor to the Governor of Maine.

A resident of Portland, Brennan is a graduate of Emmanuel College in Boston and received a masters in Public Administration from Northeastern University in Boston. She is a graduate of Catherine McAuley High School in Portland.

Richard J. Ranaghan Jr. also has been named senior vice president in the Government Banking Department in Portland. As a senior municipal lender, he is responsible for all municipal loan approvals and for providing financial advisory services for bond/note issues.

Ranaghan, who joined Peoples Heritage Bank in 1993, also served as a vice president of administration at Morse, Payson & Noyes Insurance, an affiliate agency of Banknorth Insurance Group, a subsidiary of Banknorth Group, Inc., the parent company of Peoples Heritage Bank.

Ranaghan has more than 28 years of financial and operational management experience in both the private and public sectors, including a six-year stint as the City of Portland's finance director. He is a member of the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

A resident of Portland, Ranaghan is 1973 graduate of the University of Maine and a 1969 graduate of Portland High School. He serves as a board member of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Portland, the Cumberland County Civic Center, and Portland's Downtown District.

Julie E. McQuillan has been promoted to assistant vice president in the Public Affairs Department in Portland. She will continue her involvement in the bank's charitable giving and sponsorship programs, and oversee its community initiatives and activities.

McQuillan joined Peoples Heritage Bank in 1998 and previously served as a marketing specialist.

A resident of Scarborough, McQuillan serves on the marketing committee for the Center for Grieving Children and volunteers in the Scarborough school system. She attended Fitchburg State College in Massachusetts.

Michael H. Kelley has been named branch manager at the Presque Isle banking center of Peoples Heritage Bank. In his role as business development and sales manager, he will manage daily operations, including small business loans, at the banking center located on Main Street in Presque Isle.

Kelley joined Peoples Heritage Bank earlier this year and formerly served as relationship manager at another bank in Aroostook County.

A resident of Presque Isle, Kelley is 1999 graduate of Northern Maine Technical College in Presque Isle and is currently enrolled in the Masters in Business Management program at Husson College. He is a 1997 graduate of Washburn High School.

Peoples Heritage Bank and its employees are known for their significant charitable efforts throughout Maine.

Earlier this year, the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation honored the bank for its involvement and high level of employee participation in the annual WalkAmerica, which has raised almost $500,000 to fight birth defects in the last five years with Peoples as a statewide sponsor. Employees in the bank's Retail Division also recently raised $2,600 for the Maine Cancer Program as part of an annual event. Further, the bank's nationally recognized "Peoples Promise" program benefits Maine youth with scholarships, sponsorship programs and charitable gifts.

Peoples Heritage Bank is also co-founder of the annual Peoples Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race in Cape Elizabeth. Each year, the bank awards $30,000 in race proceeds to a youth organization in Maine.
