Pima Animal Care Center to Host Job Fair for Animal Care Technicians

Shelter veterinarian and fundraising coordinator also needed - apply at www.Pima.gov

TUCSON (December 11, 2013) - Know anyone who loves animals, is interested in working in a fast-paced, challenging environment and has the skills to help Pima Animal Care Center further its goal of saving more lives?

Pima Animal Care Center is taking the rare step of holding a job fair on Wednesday, Dec. 18 to make sure critical positions can be filled as soon as possible with the right people to help us meet ongoing demand. What’s unusual about the job fair is that it is an opportunity for applicants to bring an application (and a copy of their high school diploma/general equivalency diploma) and interview that day for one of seven open animal care technician positions – some may even be chosen as a candidate that very day.

The Board of Supervisors recently allocated additional resources to hire additional staff members. A recent report comparing Pima Animal Care Center staffing to five other similar shelter operations in the southwestern region confirmed more help was sorely needed – with staff members caring for nearly double as many pets as shelters in Austin and Maricopa County, and triple those in San Diego County and San Antonio.

Additionally, the shelter is looking for a veterinarian, who will work in tandem with and report directly to our Shelter Manager to coordinate care for pets. They are also looking for a Fund Development Coordinator who will help us raise additional resources to expand medical treatment and fill other needs. “These employees will come on board at a time of creativity and energy as we build this program’s life-saving capacity,” said Kim Janes, manager of Pima Animal Care Center. “It’s demanding because of the pace of improvement, but that’s also why it’s exciting.”

Applications will be accepted from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Herbert K. Abrams Building, which houses the Pima County Health Department at 3950 S. Country Club Road. Interviews will be conducted between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Candidates must bring a completed Pima County application and a photocopy of a high school diploma or general-equivalency degree.
