Seminar to Focus on Maine Construction Law

June 6 event at Bernstein, Shur is free and open to public

The law firm of Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson is hosting a free half-day seminar June 6 that will focus on legal issues in the Maine construction industry. The program will provide attendees with an overview of key terms in standard contracts, an analysis of legal risks in construction projects and an update on rights and remedies under Maine law.

The seminar will be held from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, at Bernstein, Shur, located at 100 Middle St. A light breakfast will be provided. Space is limited, so persons interested in attending may call Ronda Williams at 774-1200 by June 1 to reserve a space.

"There are a number of issues that are important for anyone working with or in the construction industry to keep abreast of, especially in today's economy," said David P. Ray, chairman of Bernstein, Shur's Construction Law Practice Group and one of the seminar leaders. "This is an opportunity for anyone involved in construction to ask questions and get a better understanding of key legal issues."

In addition to Ray, the seminar will feature Bernstein, Shur attorneys Philip H. Gleason, George F. Burns and Mary DeLano. The construction law group was recently formed after the law firm of Burns Ray DeLano & Macdonald merged with Bernstein, Shur. The group serves owners, contractors, developers, subcontractors, suppliers, lenders, accountants, insurers and others involved in building projects in Maine and New England.

Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson is one of northern New England's largest law firms, with more than 70 attorneys in offices in Portland and Augusta. The firm provides legal services in all major subject areas, including corporate and commercial law, litigation and trials, municipal and governmental affairs, and tax and estate planning. Bernstein, Shur also has an active practice in bankruptcy, health law, environmental law, technology and commerce, employment law, legislative law, intellectual property, public utilities and other regulated industries.
