Stratex Energy, a New Consulting Group for Energy Generators, Launched by Bernstein Shur

New firm to advise energy generating plants on cost-saving measures and develop innovative strategies

PORTLAND, Maine – Stratex Energy, LLC, an energy consulting group launched recently by the law firm Bernstein Shur, will advise energy generating plants nationwide on cost-saving measures and develop innovative strategies and techniques to fit a changing world.

Portland, Maine-based Stratex Energy is led by its two Managing Directors, Robert Cleaves and Gordon Grimes, each of whom have more than two decades of experience providing services to the electrical generation industry.

Stratex Energy’s two principals, both attorneys, will find and develop ways in which electrical generators can enhance their businesses by utilizing innovative techniques. They will provide power producers with needed advice and guidance on a range of issues, including tax credits, alternative fuel strategies, renewable energy and greenhouse gases.
“It’s a different world now than when many of these power plants were constructed, and those changes are ongoing,” Cleaves said. “We have the ability to help the owners and managers of these facilities sift through new regulations and mandates and other challenges to find and leverage new opportunities.”

As a subsidiary of Bernstein Shur, one of northern New England’s largest law firms, Stratex Energy can draw on a range of legal expertise to execute its concepts and ideas, he said.

Robert Cleaves, who has significant knowledge of renewable tax credits, will focus his efforts on providing Stratex Energy clients with monetization strategies across a broad spectrum of incentives, including renewable energy, greenhouse gas and production tax credits.

Cleaves draws on more than two decades of experience, both as a practicing attorney in the environmental field and as a consultant and developer in the electrical generation sector. Since 2001, he has managed one of the largest renewable energy credit portfolios in the nation and was instrumental in expanding federal production tax credits for the nation’s biomass industry. He serves as Chairman of the USA Biomass Power Producers Alliance and is on the Board of Directors of the New England Clean Energy Council.
Gordon Grimes chairs Bernstein Shur’s Energy and Environmental Practice Group. He has represented electrical generation clients in New England and throughout the world for 25 years. Grimes has been involved in numerous power plant equipment failure cases, including matters in India, Brazil, and Indonesia. In addition to his significant legal skills, Grimes brings a depth of technical knowledge about power generation to Stratex Energy. Grimes will continue to practice law at Bernstein Shur in addition to his work for Stratex Energy.
