David Soley of Bernstein Shur Appointed Co-Chair of American Bar Association Litigation Panel
Appointment to national position considered a top honor among litigators nationwide
David A. Soley, a shareholder at Bernstein Shur in Portland, has been appointed to a national position as the co-chair of the Trial Practice Committee of the American Bar Association. The appointment, which is a top honor among litigators nationwide, recognizes his achievements âas one of the nationâs leading litigators in the field,â according to ABA Section Chair Judith Miller.
Soley, a member of Bernstein Shurâs Litigation and Real Estate practice groups, concentrates his practice in the areas of business, real estate, and constitutional litigation. He regularly represents entrepreneurs and property owners in disputes over boundaries, titles, easements, and other real estate issues.
âThis is a huge accomplishment,â said Charles E. Miller, Bernstein Shurâs Managing Shareholder. âDavid is a prominent trial lawyer and commercial real estate litigator in Maine, but this appointment recognizes his position as a national leader in the trial practice and litigation fields of law. Among trial lawyers, itâs a top honor.â
The appointment means Soley will hold a position on the ABAâs 2007-2008 Section of Litigation Leadership. As the largest committee of the ABA Litigation Section, the committee is dedicated to securing the vitality of the American system of justice and providing ABA members nationwide âwith the resources and opportunities to help them be effective, competent, and ethical advocates on behalf of their clients,â according to the mission statement.
As co-chair of the Trial Practice Committee of the section, Soley will be listed on the ABA website as an expert in national litigation issues and will also be involved in organizing and developing national events for litigators. The committeeâs mission is to âhelp its members excel as trial lawyers,â which is accomplished in part by publishing a quarterly newsletter and organizing a variety of meetings and seminars throughout the year for trial lawyers across the U.S.
This is the second major honor Soley has received from the ABA. Last year, Soley received an âAward of Excellenceâ from the American Bar Association in recognition of his leadership role in the ABAâs Business Torts Litigation Committee.
A resident of Freeport, Soley is a 1984 graduate of Emory University Law School and received a bachelorâs degree, with honors, from Bates College in 1980. He is AV-rated by Martindale Hubbell.
